Woman charged after phone stolen on train in Lidcombe

A woman has been charged following a stealing incident on a train at Lidcombe yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 2.30pm yesterday, a 20-year-old woman was seated in a train arriving at Lidcombe Railway Station.

Another woman, also aged 20, passed the woman and allegedly stole her mobile phone from her hand before running towards the carriage doors.

An off-duty police officer has seen this and moved towards the woman and demanded the phone back.

The woman allegedly punched the off-duty police officer several times in the head before running from the train.

The female officer and the woman who owned the phone got off the train and approached Railcorp Security officers at the station to report the incident.

The off-duty officer has then seen the woman at the ticket turnstiles and approached her again and was able to get the phone back following a short struggle.

The woman was detained by Railcorp Security who contacted officers from Flemington Local Area Command who placed her under arrest.

She was taken to Auburn Police Station and charged with steal from person, breach of bail and common assault and was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today.

The woman was granted strict conditional bail by the court to re-appear at Burwood Local Court on Thursday 1 June 2017.

The off-duty police officer was not seriously injured during the incident.
