Woman charged for stealing from visually impaired man in Mt Druitt

A woman has been arrested after a visually impaired man was the victim of a stealing in Sydney's west last month.

About 1.30pm on Sunday 19 March 2023, a 72-year-old man was attempting to withdraw money from an ATM at a shopping centre in Mt Druitt; however, required assistance due to being visually impaired.

While waiting for staff to assist him, it's alleged a woman approached him and offered to withdraw the money for him.

The man accepted the woman's help and, as the transaction was being processed, the woman allegedly withdrew a larger amount than requested.

It's further alleged she then fled with the cash.

Officers from Mt Druitt Police Area Command were notified and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident commenced.

Following a public appeal, a 24-year-old woman was arrested after attending Mt Druitt Police Station about 2pm today (Friday 21 April 2023).

She was charged with steal from person and given conditional bail to appear before Mt Druitt Local Court on Wednesday 17 May 2023.
