Woman critically injured in DV assault - Surry Hills

A man is due in Parramatta Bail Court today charged after a woman was found suffering multiple stab wounds and fractures in an alleged domestic violence-related assault.

Emergency services had been called to a unit block in Goodlet Street, Surry Hills, about 6am yesterday (Saturday 5 June 2021), after a 45-year-old woman was discovered injured at the bottom of a staircase.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the woman at the scene before taking her to St Vincent's Hospital where she is being treated for stab wounds to her back and leg, internal injuries and multiple facial fractures.

Officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command attended and arrested a 58-year-old man.

He was taken to Sydney Eye Hospital where he was treated for a cut to his hand before being released and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.

The man, from Waterloo, has now been charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (DV).

He has been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail court today (Sunday 6 June 2021).

Police have been told the woman remains in a critical condition.
