Woman dies after debris struck vehicle near Parkes

A woman has died after debris from a truck hit a vehicle in the state's west yesterday.

Just after 4pm (Friday 24 January 2020), emergency services were called to the Newell Highway at Alectown, about 25km north of Parkes, following reports debris from a truck had struck a Toyota Prado SUV travelling in the opposite direction.

Upon arrival, officers from Central West Police District located a 38-year-old seriously injured. Despite attempts to revive her, she passed away at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 42-year-old man, and three boys – aged four, six and nine – were taken to Parkes Hospital as a precaution and have since been released.

The truck driver, a 52-year-old man, was also taken to Parkes Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene has been established with officers from the Crash Investigation Unit investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
