Dandjoo Looks To Next Generation

Held on Thursday 22 October, at Residence on Langley Park, this year's Dandjoo event explored the theme The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy.

The gathering provided an opportunity to reflect on the past and present experiences of Aboriginal people, both in the wider community and within the agency.

Commissioner Col Blanch joined attendees for a Q&A session, encouraging them to share their perspectives and suggest changes to help build a more inclusive workplace for future generations.

Former AFL players Michael "Sonny" Walters and Dale Kickett shared personal stories about their upbringing, the challenges they've overcome and their lives and careers both on and off the field.

The day also recognised Aboriginal officers and staff who go above and beyond in their roles, with awards celebrating service, teamwork, leadership and community commitment.

Community Liaison Officer Marika Calvin received the Service to Others Award, while Police Auxiliary Officer Warren Taylor was recognised with the Teamwork Award.

Senior Constable Mel Raye and Community Liaison Officer Gaileen Clements each received a Community Service Award, and Brevet Sergeant Aiden Albert received the Leadership Award.

With members travelling from across the State, Dandjoo brought people together to celebrate their contributions, strengthen connections and share ideas to help shape the future for the next generation.
