Woman dies in hospital after shooting; charge upgraded, NSW

A woman has died after being shot in the state's south at the weekend.

Just after 12am on Saturday (19 January 2019), a 31-year-old woman was on a property on the Cobb Highway, Pretty Pine, north of Deniliquin, with five other people, when she sustained a gun-shot wound to her head.

Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to Deniliquin Hospital, before being airlifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

She died yesterday (Tuesday 22 January 2019).

A 32-year-old man, known to the woman, was arrested by police from Murray River Police District, and taken to Deniliquin Police Station.

He was initially charged with fire firearm manner likely to injure persons/property, use unauthorised firearm and use firearm under the influence of alcohol.

The charge was upgraded to manslaughter at Griffith Local Court today (Wednesday 23 January 2019).

He was granted conditional bail to re-appear before the same court on 20 March 2019.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
