Woman drowns at Cowes

Police will prepare a report for the coroner after a woman drowned at Cowes this afternoon, Victoria Police say.

The woman was swimming at Red Rocks Beach just before 5pm when her family were no longer able to see her in the water.

The family and beachgoers commenced a search and she was spotted about 300 meters offshore.

A passing boat picked her up but the 78-year-old Doncaster woman died at the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
