Woman seriously injured during bag snatch in Berkley

Police are investigating after a woman was seriously injured during a bag snatch in Unanderra today, NSW Police say.

Just before 10am (Sunday 26 August 2018), a 62-year-old woman and her son were sitting in a car in the public carpark of a temple at Berkley, when another woman approached the open passenger door and grabbed hold of her bag.

The woman attempted to hold onto her bag and was pulled out of the car and dragged to a nearby car, driven by a man.

The car drove off, dragging the woman before she fell and hit her head.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended.

The woman was treated by paramedics after suffering a head injury and was taken to Wollongong Hospital, where she remains in a serious condition.

A crime scene was established and forensically examined.

As inquiries continue, any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police, or anyone with information is urged to contact police via Crime Stoppers.
