Woman under police guard after cliff fall at Cowan

A woman remains under police guard in hospital after she fell over a rock ledge at Cowan overnight.

About 8.45pm (Wednesday 26 August 2021), officers from Parramatta Police Area Command observed a Mazda 3 involved in an earlier pursuit with police, travelling on Victoria Road, Parramatta.

Police attempted to pull the car over; however, the driver failed to comply, and a pursuit was initiated. It was terminated almost immediately due to the manner of driving.

Polair were deployed and commenced tracking the car from North Rocks Rd eventually to the M1 near Cowan.

The driver stopped the car in the emergency lane after it ran out of fuel and commenced running towards bushland.

The Dog Unit attended, and a 24-year-old woman – believed to be the driver - was located a short time later down a steep rocky embankment.

She was retrieved by Fire & Rescue NSW and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital suffering a head injury and remains in a stable condition.

Detectives from the Parramatta Police Area Command are continuing inquiries.
