Central Queensland's finest female singers will be in the spotlight in July when Women in Voice returns to Pilbeam Theatre.

Inspired by the iconic Women in Voice cabaret series that has been part of Brisbane's music scene for nearly thirty years, Lock&Hock Productions have created a performance that showcases local talent, giving each singer the opportunity to explore her own unique voice.

This year's lineup features: MC Jenny Wynter, Tamara Petersen, Kate Leahy, Rachel Smith and Carita Farrer Spencer.

The show is presented by Rockhampton Regional Council and supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

Whether it's a collection of songs with a special meaning or by a favourite artist, a story told through song or something served up with healthy dollop of humour, Women in Voice will give its audiences a delicious smorgasbord of cabaret, pop, rock, music theatre and more. It promises a night of superb musicianship and theatricality, a night of both individual brilliance and superlative ensemble singing as the singers come together as backing vocalists for each other.

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS:

Jenny Wynter: MC for the show is Brisbane-based comedian, singer and cabaret artist Jenny Wynter. Jenny has toured regional Queensland extensively as part of the Funny Mummies Comedy Gala and was MC in Rockhampton's Women in Voice 2021.

Tamara Petersen: Tamara spent a good part of her early twenties travelling the state competing in Country Music Festivals racking up titles along the way. Her duo, Louise James FX have opened for Busby Marou, entertained local crowds at the Australia Day Bites celebrations and shared originals at Keppel Vibes on Great Keppel Island.

Kate Leahy: For Yeppoon singer songwriter Kate Leahy, 2022 has started at the top with 2 #1 hits! Kate's singles Smile and Follow Me have dominated the AMRAP Regional Charts this year. It comes as a welcome surprise after Kate took several years away from the music industry to focus on raising a family.

Rachel Smith: Creative people exist in all sorts of places. Rachel Smith hails from a cattle property near Wowan. Rachel makes up one half of sister duo Innocent Eve, touring across Australia, with 3 studio albums and performing internationally including the Bluebird Café in Nashville.

Carita Farrer Spencer: Originally from Rockhampton, Carita has had an extensive career in the performing arts with credits in stage, cabaret, film and television. Most recently she performed the role of Mack in Melbourne Theatre Company's The Heartbreak Choir. Carita is known for her hilarious cabaret shows including Larry & The Dame (a double bill with herself).

Directors: Travis and Amanda Hock

Musical Director / Vocal Coach: Stephanie Quinlan

Women in Voice Band Naomi Donovan (keyboard), Cory Owens (drums), Dave Wenitong (guitar).

Women in Voice will be performed at the Pilbeam Theatre on Saturday 9 July at 7.30pm.
