Kids under the age of 15 will be able to attend the first Holden Women's State of Origin to be played in Queensland for free, with tickets officially released to the public today (February 5).
The third instalment of the highly anticipated fixture will be played at Sunshine Coast Stadium on Friday, 19June, with General Admission prices for adults starting from as little as $10.
NRL General Manager of Elite Women's Programs Tiffany Slater joined, NSW Blues Captain Kezie Apps, Queensland Maroons representative Meg Ward, Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson and girls from Buderim Mountain State School to announce the official release of tickets to the public.
"We've witnessed some incredible moments of skill, athleticism and camaraderie during the first two instalments of this fixture but it's the scores of young girls and boys in the crowd interacting with their idols that really makes this event like no-other," Ms Slater said.
"I know just how passionate Queensland and the whole Sunshine Coast region is for rugby league and I look forward to seeing this passion translate into a packed Sunshine Coast Stadium come June 19."
Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson said securing the Women's State of Origin event for the Sunshine Coast is further evidence of the region's growing reputation in the NRL, on the back of securing NRL fixture matches with the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Cronulla Sharks to be played at Sunshine Coast Stadium.
"Hosting this exciting NRL event on the Sunshine Coast further reinforces our region's reputation as a leading regional location for elite sporting teams and competition events.
"The NRL Women's State of Origin has seen rapid growth since its launch in 2018, and we are proud to host the Queensland Maroons and showcase elite women's sport on our Sunshine Coast.
"It is only fitting that the Women's State of Origin – the NRL's leading women's sport event - is played on our Sunshine Coast, given our region is also home to Australia's most successful start-up, national competition sporting team in the Sunshine Coast Lightning.
"Unleashing the value of women's sport to influence participation levels is important when you consider AusPlay research from 2018 indicates 81.1% of females over 15 years participate in sport at least once per week.
"We can't wait to welcome footy fans to the Sunshine Coast in June 2020, and encourage them to plan ahead to secure their accommodation and flights to the Sunshine Coast.
"This is a high quality event that provides a great opportunity to promote our stunning Sunshine Coast as a destination and our excellent sporting facilities to a national audience.
"The staging of the Women's State of Origin event on the Sunshine Coast is due to a growing partnership between Sunshine Coast Council, National Rugby League Ltd (NRL) and Tourism Events Queensland (TEQ)."
Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said the game would be a blockbuster.
"We secure big events like this for the Sunshine Coast because we know how important they are for the local tourism industry.
"We're expecting a capacity crowd of 12,000 people on the Sunshine Coast for the first ever Women's State of Origin match – a great win for local footy fans."
Pre-purchased tickets will remain in line with 2018 and 2019 prices, at $10 for adults and those under 15 years of age remaining free when purchased alongside an adult General Admission ticket.
The 2020 Holden Women's State of Origin is proudly supported by naming sponsor, Holden, together with the Queensland Government, via its tourism and major events arm, Tourism and Events Queensland, and the Sunshine Coast Council.
It will be broadcast live nationally across the Nine Network, Fox Sports and NRL Live Pass, and well as Sky NZ in New Zealand.
