Women's Work Undervaluation Faces New Challenge

Across many sectors, jobs mainly carried out by women are still assigned less pay, recognition, and status than those done by men, even when they require the same skills, effort, and responsibility. This persistent undervaluation, a significant factor contributing to the gender pay gap, limits women's opportunities and slows progress toward equality.

Physiotherapist Mizgin Alpkan, with the support of the ILO's Work Based Learning Programme, has proven her expertise in a field where women's work is often underestimated.

Her experience is a powerful reminder that women's skills and contributions deserve equal respect, opportunities, and rewards. By addressing undervaluation, we move closer to a fairer world of work.

Work-Based Learning Programme (locally known as İŞMEP) is a part of the project "Promoting Decent Work for Syrians under Temporary Protection and Turkish Citizens", financed by the Federal Republic of Germany through the KfW Development Bank and implemented by the International Labour Organization (ILO) Office for Türkiye in coordination with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
