Work continues to restore city's water network

Following advice from the Townsville City Council, the Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) is encouraging residents to continue conserving water, after power outages and storm damage impacted some of the city's water infrastructure.

TLDMG Chair Jenny Hill said a damage assessment of Council's water network has confirmed some pumps remain offline, after power was cut during ex-Tropical Cyclone Kirrily.

Cr Hill said the roofs of three water reservoirs had also been damaged.

"Council is continuing to work with Ergon to restore power to the pumps to ensure water service is returned to normal as soon as possible," Cr Hill said.

"Work is also underway to repair the reservoir roofs.

"We have enough safe drinking water for the community – we are not going to run out of drinking water.

"But we need people to keep this water for drinking, not for cleaning their houses and yards.

"Check around your home for leaks, reuse water where you can, avoid washing down debris and take short showers."
