Commuters driving to Revesby Station will soon have access to around 385 extra parking spaces, with construction now underway to upgrade the existing multi-storey car park.
Federal Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said the jointly-funded $29 million project will help ease congestion on local roads.
"The Morrison Government is getting on with delivering infrastructure projects that improve congestion and safety for commuters across Australia, making it easier for them to move around our capital cities and ensuring they get home quickly and safely," Minister Fletcher said.
"Under the Urban Congestion Fund, we are delivering 177 individual packages of works nationwide. Today's announcement on the Revesby Commuter Car Park means a total of 69 Urban Congestion Fund projects around Australia are now complete or underway. A further 48 are expected to start construction this year.
"This is just the latest example of us delivering on our commitment to progress critical infrastructure projects across the country under our record $110 billion, 10-year infrastructure investment pipeline, which is helping to drive Australia's world-leading economic recovery."
New South Wales Minister for Transport and Roads, the Hon Andrew Constance MP, said in order to complete the upgrade work safely, commuter car parking will be reduced during construction.
"The Commuter Car Park program is designed to make it easier for customers who need to drive part of their journey to access public transport," Minister Constance said.
"As well as benefitting public transport customers, this project will create more employment opportunities across sectors such as engineering, construction and administration.
"We ask customers to allow more time, plan their journey and consider alternate modes of transport while construction is underway."
Key features of the project include:
- adding two storeys to the western side and three storeys to the eastern side of the existing multi-storey car park, providing approximately 385 additional car spaces
- extension of the lift, stairs and internal ramps to the additional upper levels
- additional accessible parking spaces on level two of the existing car park
- provision for future electric vehicle charging spaces
- CCTV, lighting and wayfinding for improved safety and security
- rooftop solar panels
- new pedestrian crossing on the western end of Haydock Lane
- installation of new bicycle parking on the southern side of Revesby Station
- drainage work and landscaping.
The $29 million project is jointly funded, with the Australian Government contributing $12.5 million under the Urban Congestion Fund and the NSW Government contributing the remainder.
The project is expected to be completed in early 2022.
