Ararat Rural City Council is pleased to announce the recommencement of the Mount William Road upgrade project. This significant infrastructure work will seal and improve a major transport route for local farmers, residents, and visitors.
The $6.25 million project involves reconstructing and widening six kilometres of Mount William Road, a key route for agricultural freight heading to the Lakaput bulk grain storage facility. These upgrades will enhance road safety, reduce travel times, and reduce dust impacts on nearby crops by widening the sealed road surface. The project is funded jointly by the Federal Government's Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program and Council's own contribution.
The overall project works are focused on reconstruction and stabilising, and include new road base layers, drainage improvements, resurfacing and updated signage.
Dr Tim Harrison, CEO of Ararat Rural City Council, said, "Restarting this important project will deliver lasting benefits for our farming community and all road users. We acknowledge the frustration caused by delays but remain committed to seeing these works through with quality and efficiency. This road upgrade strengthens local supply chains and supports the broader economy."
Council thanks the community for their patience and cooperation during the project's earlier challenges and encourages motorists to stay alert to construction activity and traffic changes.
