Students in Frankston North are a step closer to having the first-rate facilities they deserve, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.
Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Frankston Paul Edbrooke today visited Mahogany Rise Primary School to turn the sod on the school's upgrade and modernisation works, which includes integrating the on-site early learning centre, as part of the Frankston North Education Plan.
Works at Mahogany Rise Primary School form part of the Labor Government's $26.2 million investment in the Frankston North Education Plan – which is a partnership between the Department of Education and Training, the Colman Foundation and the City of Frankston. It aims to lift the achievements of local primary and secondary students, while also improving education, health and wellbeing programs for the wider Frankston North community.
New facilities at Mahogany Rise Primary School will provide innovative, flexible spaces that support modern teaching practices, and allow the school to offer integrated family, health and wellbeing services. The works, to be built by construction firm Lloyd Group, are expected to be completed by mid-2021.
Along with Mahogany Rise Primary School, the plan also involves Aldercourt Primary School and Monterey Secondary College.
Works are already underway on projects at these schools which will enhance the quality of their teaching and student learning, and ensure students move smoothly through all stages of education. This includes a new Centre of Excellence in Sports and Health Sciences and competition grade gymnasium for secondary students as well as innovative and flexible spaces and welcome areas at Aldercourt Primary School.
Both the Mahogany Rise Primary School and Aldercourt Primary School communities will benefit from having on-site integrated early learning and community services that will feature the Our Place model, an approach developed by the Colman Foundation to promote positive education outcomes for children and families.
Under the Labor Government's school building boom, a total of 100 new schools will open by 2026, ensuring every child can access a great local school where they can achieve their best. The Labor Government has invested $6.1 billion to deliver more than 1,400 school upgrades and supporting more than 7,500 construction jobs for Victorians.
