Works are getting underway on a new $33 million Park 'n' Ride facility in Adelaide's northern suburbs delivering on an important election commitment and supporting 150 full time equivalent jobs over the construction period.
The existing Park 'n' Ride located on The Grove Way currently contains 177 ground-level, off-street parking spaces for commuters accessing O-Bahn bus services. The new Park 'n' Ride will include around 450 spaces.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Corey Wingard, said the current facility can no longer meet the demand for north eastern public transport commuters.
"The new Golden Grove Park 'n' Ride will comprise three levels of parking (ground floor plus two upper levels) bringing the total number of car parks to approximately 450, which includes ten Disability Discrimination Act 1992 compliant car parks and provision for secure bike storage," Minister Wingard said.
"We're excited to be getting started on this project now, just months after the funding was announced in the State Budget.
"Investing in Park 'n' Rides is part of the Marshall Liberal Government's plan to deliver a better public transport network for South Australians."
From Wednesday, 17 February, access to the existing Golden Grove Park 'n' Ride will be closed to the public for the duration of the works.
During February and March, alternative temporary parking will be available at the Tea Tree Plaza Interchange Park 'n' Ride, located on Smart Road, Modbury while safety measures like lighting and CCTV are put in place at the temporary facility.
Member for King, Paula Luethen, said the Park 'n' Ride upgrade is much needed in the local community.
"The upgrade will address significant concerns about the number of parks available, the security of parked cars and the overflow of parking into nearby streets," Ms Luethen said.
"In addition the upgrade will provide a safe and convenient kiss and drop solution for the benefit of commuters and the local school community."
From April, temporary car parking will be available in a location near the Golden Grove Park 'n' Ride. A further update will be provided closer to this date, including details of the location and access.
To be delivered by the Public Transport Projects Alliance (PTP Alliance), the Golden Grove Park 'n' Ride Project is set to improve access for South Australians by providing better connectivity between modes of transport and localities.
The PTP Alliance has been responsible for the delivery of other key public transport improvements including the Oaklands Crossing Grade Separation and Paradise Park 'n' Ride projects.
The Golden Grove Park 'n' Ride Project is due for completion in early 2022, weather permitting.
