Works on Uralba Street bridge - Wollongong

Wollongong City Council will begin much needed repair work on the ageing bridge in Uralba Street Figtree later this month.

The bridge will be closed from Wednesday 22 April for the duration of the project, which is expected to take about four months, depending on weather conditions.

The bridge was built in the 1960s and is showing signs of deterioration. The bridge beam bearings are corroded and require replacement, the bridge joints are allowing water into the structural elements, there is corrosion of steel reinforcement and voids have formed in the foundation materials.

The bridge will be closed to all traffic, however pedestrian access will be available through the work site. Detour signs will be in place.
