Works set to begin on new Chadwick Reserve pavilion
The transformation of the old and tired clubhouse at Chadwick Reserve is set to begin soon after Kingston Council approved a $3.2 million contract to build a new sporting pavilion and other improvements.
The new pavilion is part of Stage 2 of the redevelopment of Chadwick Reserve's sporting and recreational facilities which will also include a new playground, upgrades to the BMX track, a basketball half-court, new pathways and landscaping and drainage work.
Stage 1 works to create new sporting fields, sports lighting and landscaping were completed in 2020.
Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos said the Chadwick Reserve sporting upgrades were crucial to meet growing demands for junior AFL and cricket facilities.
"This is a community that loves its sport and the existing aging facilities at Chadwick Reserve just didn't meet their needs," said Cr Staikos. "Last year we were able to provide the clubs that use the site with some fantastic new playing fields and sport lighting and very soon they will also have a terrific new fit-for-purpose pavilion."
Initial works to upgrade the playground and BMX track as well as installing new fencing, pathways, and landscaping and drainage works will start from this month.
Council has also given the green light for work to start on the renewal and upgrade of the popular Dolamore Athletics Track and facilities in Mentone.
The $1.2 million improvements will include track resurfacing, improvements to the base and minor track widening to make it safer for athletes.
"We are focused on inspiring greater involvement and participation in local sport across Kingston, and these two projects will ensure that the city's sporting infrastructure benefits our growing community for years to come," said Cr Staikos.
