The Tasmanian Government is building an even better Tasmania, with construction now underway on the $14.5 million redevelopment of the North West Regional Hospital Emergency Department and ambulance drop off area.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said our Government is making record investments in our health system.
"We are building an even better Tasmania by delivering important hospital upgrades right across our State," the Premier said.
"This project will enable faster response times, enhance patient and staff services, and increase access, privacy, security, and safety for all ED users.
"Through our Government's 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we're delivering an even better health system across our State."
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, said the redevelopment will help the hospital meet the needs of the community, now and into the future.
"We are delivering modern, improved facilities for patients, staff, and visitors to the North West Regional Hospital," Minister Archer said.
"The reconfigured ED will include expanded triage and assessment areas, improved staff amenities, and facilities for people living with disabilities or mental health challenges, and those who have experienced sexual assault.
"Importantly, these upgrades will also boost security and safety in the ED, improving lines of sight and positioning of security staff, widening narrow passageways, and enhancing wayfinding.
"This project has been developed in close consultation with clinicians and staff from the North West Regional Hospital and Ambulance Tasmania, the broader community, and Tasmania Police."
Tasmanian company Vos Construction & Joinery has been awarded the contract, with works expected to be complete in mid-2028.
