The Albanese and Allan Labor Governments are delivering smoother and safer journeys around Lakes Entrance and Kalimna as upgrades to a key intersection along the Princes Highway get underway.
Sections of Kalimna Path will be reconstructed and surfaced, with safety barriers, pedestrian fencing and drainage also being upgraded as part of the works.
Concrete medians and two raised safety platforms will be installed to slow vehicles down where pedestrians are crossing.
New lighting will be installed and the current pedestrian refuge will be upgraded, which will improve safety for all roads users.
The Princes Highway at the intersection of Lookout Road and Hotel Road will also have the painted centre islands replaced.
The works totalling nearly $2 million have been funded by both governments, with the Albanese Government investing $1.58 million and the Allan Government contributing nearly $400,000 towards the project.
The improved access for pedestrians will promote active transport for the local community and for visitors to the area.
Works are expected to be completed by the end of the year - weather permitting.
Notice on any further traffic changes as the project progresses will be provided to the local community.
As stated by Acting Federal Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Julie Collins:
"We're providing better and safer links for all roads users so that everyone can enjoy the scenic lookouts on the southern side of the Princes Highway in Kalimna."

"Safety is at the forefront of these improvements. By building a concrete refuge and raised safety platforms on the Princes Highway, we're improving safety for pedestrians wishing to cross the highway."
