Works underway at White Flat Recreation Reserve to improve safety

Safety infrastructure works are underway at Ballarat's White Flat Recreation Reserve courtesy of State Government and City of Ballarat funding.

Earlier this year, Council was awarded a $187,720 grant through the State Government's Public Safety Infrastructure Fund to install Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), lighting, pathways, way-finding signage and landscaping at the Hickman Street reserve to improve perceptions of safety and reduce anti-social behaviour.

Council is contributing a further $23,000 towards landscaping and project management.

Inground lighting infrastructure has already been installed at the reserve, along with CCTV cameras which are now in operation.

A concrete pedestrian path is currently being built between the change rooms and coaches' box.

The improvements will enhance both actual and perceptions of safety at the reserve which were identified in Council's Right to the Night Project last year.

Construction works are expected to be complete by November this year.
