It was a chance to showcase how we are protecting our unique heritage for future generations.

The WHC coordinates and promotes World Heritage globally. It is part of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

Lazare visited several World Heritage sites. He saw the vital role First Nations peoples play in caring for Country.

Highlights included:

  • Great Barrier Reef - seeing reef management and restoration up close with Traditional Owners and scientists.
  • Murujuga Cultural Landscape - learning about Culture with Traditional Owners on land and sea.
  • Sydney Opera House - exploring its architecture and role as a cultural hub.
  • Wet Tropics of Queensland - experiencing the rainforest with rangers.

During Lazare's visit, we were able to show the scale of Australia's properties and talk about our:

  • world-class heritage management
  • successes
  • future challenges.

We look forward to future collaborations with our global World Heritage partners.
