Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun has warmly welcomed the completion of the Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) terminal, congratulating WSI Chief Executive Simon Hickey and his team for delivering one of Australia's most significant infrastructure projects on time and on budget.
"This is a proud day for Western Sydney and a major milestone in our journey toward becoming a true economic powerhouse," Mayor Mannoun said.
"The completion of the WSI terminal is not just the end of construction, it's the beginning of a new era of jobs, growth, and opportunity for our region."
The $5.3 billion Western Sydney International Airport, set to open in 2026, is already delivering tangible benefits to the region. So far, the project has created nearly 12,000 direct jobs, with over 360 local businesses sharing in more than $500 million worth of contracts. The economic momentum it is generating is expected to continue well into the future.
"WSI is more than an airport, it's a catalyst for transformation. It is already providing thousands of local jobs for local people, and over the next decade, it will inject billions into the local economy," Mayor Mannoun said.
By 2030, the airport is expected to handle 23,000 passengers and 800 tonnes of cargo every day, supported by almost 200 daily flights. The terminal's completion brings the project into the next critical phase: trials and testing to ensure a smooth and efficient experience for passengers from day one.
Mayor Mannoun highlighted the broader significance of the airport for Western Sydney. "This airport is about unlocking potential.
"It will drive investment, improve connectivity, and help put Liverpool and the wider Western Parkland City on the map, both nationally and globally."
"Delivering a project of this scale within budget and on schedule is no small feat. Simon and his team have done an outstanding job, and the whole region will benefit from their vision and commitment."
"This is Western Sydney's time—and the terminal opening is just the beginning."
