Wyndham residents will have a new local venue for community celebrations and gatherings following Council's decision to progress design work for the "The Big Shed" (interim name)-at Fortitude Drive Reserve, Truganina.
The Big Shed responds to consistent community feedback, including community consultation in June, calling for a multipurpose venue that can accommodate large events such as cultural festivals, school presentations, awards nights, markets and civic occasions.
Mayor Mia Shaw said The Big Shed is about making it easier for people to come together for their biggest moments without leaving Wyndham.
"We've heard our community loud and clear. People want a welcoming, versatile and affordable place to come together," the Mayor said.
"The Big Shed is about bringing those big moments home, and making sure the design reflects how our community actually wants to use the space."
Fortitude Drive Reserve has been identified as the preferred location with the assessment considering accessibility and the ability to integrate a venue with supporting amenities-accommodating up to 750 guests (or ~1,500 in theatre style)-along with a stage, community commercial kitchen and ample on-site parking.
