Wyndham City is proud to announce Alexavier Sigurdur as the One Wyndham recipient for November.
Alexavier is a freelance queer Indigenous artist whose art work titled 'Tchingal's Eye' was recently selected as part of Wyndham Youth Services, 2022 Q Art Project.
The artwork featured in the 2022 Q Art Book publication and was on display at Point Cook Community Learning Centre and the Youth Resource Centre is Hoppers Crossing.
Alexavier uses his artistic endeavour from an Indigenous perspective from the Jardwadjali traditional lands to explore and raise awareness of gender and sexuality.
'Tchingal's Eye' is named after the emu from the Gariwerd (Grampians) creation story.
He uses art as a way to give voice to those less heard and to support and represent them in the Wyndham community.
Through creating art, Alexavier is creating a safe and accepting space for young people First Nations people and young people in the lgbtqia+ community in Wyndham.
Wyndham City Mayor Cr Susan McIntyre said: "Wyndham City thanks Alexavier for the positive contribution he has made through his artistic expression."
"Alexavier is inspiring and provides a platform for those less heard and encourages inclusivity and acceptance."
One Wyndham recipients are residents aged between 12 to 25 who positively contribute to the Wyndham community and are role models to other young people.
Each month Council selects a Wyndham resident to be awarded the 'Young Person of the Month'.
Winners are awarded a $300 gift voucher of their choice and other prizes.
