Yachts runs aground near Coffs Harbour, NSW

A man has been rescued after his yacht ran aground near Coffs Harbour this morning, NSW Police say.

Just after 1.20am (Thursday 26 July 2018), a 61-year-old man called for assistance and set off his personal EPIRB, after the keel of his 48-foot yacht broke off and the vessel started taking on water.

As a result, the yacht ran aground at North Beach, Mylestom, approximately 25km south of Coffs Harbour.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District, with assistance from the Marine Area Command and Marine Rescue, attended and located the skipper safe on the beach.

The man, who had been travelling from Tasmania to Brisbane, was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital for assessment.

Police and Maritime Services remain at the scene this morning and will manage the salvage process of the yacht.
