Moira Shire Council has given in-principle support for a management solution to regulate access to the Yarrawonga Holiday Park while still allowing entry for local residents to use the boat ramp.
This follows a community consultation process that highlighted overwhelming support for retaining public access to the boat ramp.
Council subsequently asked for a traffic count to be undertaken at the Yarrawonga Holiday Park and the boat ramp, which found that on average during March to May 2026, approximately 25 boats per week used the ramp.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said Council was keen to find a solution that meets both the community's preference to use the boat ramp and Yarrawonga Holiday Park Committee of Management's requirements for greater control over access to the Park.
"The community consultation and the traffic count have shown the strong public support for continued access to the boat ramp, but we also want to support the Committee with their development of a masterplan for the site," Dr Emonson said.
Under consideration is a plan to allow local community members to access the boat ramp through an automated gate system, which would be implemented as part of a broader masterplan for the Park.
This would allow for a boom gate to be installed to control traffic at the front of the Park to satisfy the Committee's requirements, and still meet community support for continued public access to the boat ramp.
While a management solution is being implemented, public access to the boat ramp will remain unchanged.
