Construction work has started on the new Yarrawonga Multisport Stadium.
Moretto Building began construction of the much-anticipated community project on Monday 13 April 2026.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM is delighted that building works have started and is looking forward to watching the stadium take shape.
"This is one of the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken by Council, and it will be a valuable facility for the community for many years to come," Dr Emonson said.
Moretto Building has been working hard since being awarded the design and construct tender for the stadium in March 2025, completing concept designs and initial investigations, before moving on to detailed design and construction drawings. Onsite civil works, including drainage basin and pipe installation, started late last year.
The new stadium will be built at the Yarrawonga Showgrounds, enhancing existing and future sports opportunities with state-of-the-art facilities for year-round use, catering to all ages, abilities and interests.
The two multipurpose courts with seating will support basketball, netball, badminton, table tennis and volleyball, as well as evolving sports like futsal, fitness classes and community activities.
There will also be a modern cafe, kitchen, tournament office, meeting rooms, toilets and showers, large multipurpose room, umpire rooms, first aid room, Changing Place facilities and four changerooms (two accessible from outside).
Dr Emonson said as well as supporting local sporting clubs, the stadium will create more opportunities for regional events and tournaments.
"This is a great step forward in enhancing the liveability of Yarrawonga. We also look forward to an economic boost to the Shire from participant usage," he said.
"We are excited to watch the stadium take shape this year and we look forward to sharing its progress with the community."
The stadium is jointly funded by Moira Shire Council, the Australian Government's Community Development Grants Program, the Victorian Government's Local Sports Infrastructure fund and the Yarrawonga-Mulwala Basketball Association.
