The Yarrawonga Shire Hall has reopened for public use, paving the way to open the curtains on community events and performances once again.
The reopening of the main hall space comes as works are progressing well on the Yarrawonga Library, which is Stage 1 of the broader Yarrawonga Library, Events and Performance Precinct project.
While works are continuing on the adjacent new library, the hall's capacity will be limited to up to 150 people during community events and programs.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said the reopening would be a welcome outcome for the community.
"This is a much-loved community space, and we know there are many groups and organisations who will be thrilled the space is once again available for events, music, theatre and more," Dr Emonson said.
"The Shire Hall is an iconic part of Yarrawonga's cultural heritage and has hosted thousands of performances over the past 95 years.
"We look forward to seeing the space come to life with performances and events once again, bringing people back together in this beautiful, historic building."
Council has been working closely on the future of the Shire Hall alongside the Future Use Advisory Group, which has been part of informing the scope and plans for Stage 2 of the Yarrawonga Library, Events and Performance Precinct, which focuses on the future use of the Shire Hall.
"Council is continuing to plan for the Yarrawonga Shire Hall building's long-term future, with assessments underway on a tender for refurbishment of the hall. We will keep the community updated as plans progress on any future works," Dr Emonson said.
As the Shire Hall reopens its doors to the community, Council will host its December Council Meeting at the Yarrawonga Shire Hall to mark this significant milestone.
Bookings for the Shire Hall can be made by calling Council's Customer Experience team on (03) 5871 9222, or by completing the form on Council's website.
The Shire Hall will also continue to operate as a Council customer service centre on Mondays to Fridays.
