The ACT Government has launched the Draft ACT Skate Strategy in collaboration with skating stakeholders, community groups, industry experts and government partners to guide the future of skating infrastructure in Canberra.
The draft Strategy has been developed in response to the 2022-2024 Inquiry into Skateboarding and Skateparks in the ACT (the Inquiry), following community petitions.
The proposed draft Strategy responds to this and other recommendations from the Inquiry to provide safe, well-maintained and high-quality skating infrastructure in districts across the Territory.
Minister for Sport and Recreation Chris Steel said the Strategy promotes a skate culture in the ACT that is supported, safe, celebrated and responsive to the needs of the Canberra community.
"The Draft ACT Skate Strategy sets a clear vision for the future of skating in Canberra as a sport and recreation activity, and provides a coordinated, long-term approach to planning, building and maintaining skate facilities across the Territory," Minister Steel said.
"This vision is for anyone who uses our skateparks, whether that's bike riders, skateboarders, or people using scooters, roller blades or skates.
"We want to hear from the skating community and local community groups about their skating infrastructure priorities and how we can make Canberra a great home for skaters.
"I encourage skate users from all wheeled disciplines, including BMX riders, to read the Strategy and provide feedback."
