The Geographical Names Board is seeking community feedback on a proposal by City of Parramatta Council to name a reserve in the suburb of Beecroft as Yanung Reserve.

Chair of the Board Narelle Underwood said council received a naming request from the 1st Roselea Scouts to name the reserve where its Scout Hall is located.

"Through place naming, communities have the opportunity to unlock past stories, reawaken language and provide a sense of belonging and identity," Mrs Underwood said.

"The Board is encouraging community comment before it considers the proposal."

Council is also planning to name the two neighbouring bushland reserves, providing the opportunity to create individual identities for each.

The proposed Yanung Reserve is the central reserve of the three unnamed reserves.

The reserve is located between Calool and Orchard Roads, Beecroft. Yanung is a Dharug word and means "watch".

Details of the proposal can be viewed and submissions lodged on the Geographical Names Board's website.

Alternatively, written submissions may be mailed to the Secretary, Geographical Names Board, 346 Panorama Ave, Bathurst, NSW 2795.

The closing date for submissions is 1 December 2022.
