The Morrison Government is listening to the views of young Australians about how to improve the education system.
The Youth Workshop in Melbourne today will canvas the views of 55 young Australians, aged 13 to 26 years, from around the country as part of the Government's work to update the 2008 Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians.
The workshop is the final in a series of consultations held in every state and territory. More than 900 people have participated in consultations, adding their views to more than 150 written submissions.
Minister for Education Dan Tehan said the youth delegates represented a wide range of experiences and backgrounds.
"The Melbourne Declaration is now ten years old so it's time that we again look at how we are educating our children and agree a way forward to continue improving student outcomes," Mr Tehan said.
"Students know firsthand what is working in our education system and where we can make improvements so their insights will be important as we update our goals for education in Australia.
"Our Government is providing record school funding and is implementing the nationwide reforms to improve student outcomes as recommended by David Gonski, and updating the Melbourne Declaration is another significant initiative to lift education standards.
"The consultation sessions and submissions are an important part of updating the Melbourne Declaration and all feedback will be carefully considered as a new declaration is drafted."
