Young People Celebrated As Youth Week WA Kicks Off

  • More than 50 community events to be held across the State as part of Youth Week WA 2026
  • Celebrations to run from 10 to 16 April, recognising the positive contributions young people make to their communities
  • Shire of Capel to officially launch the week with community-wide youth festival

More than 50 community events celebrating young people are set to be held this week as part of Western Australia's largest annual celebration of young people aged 10 to 25.

Running from 10 to 16 April, Youth Week WA acknowledges the important role young people play in their communities, while providing them a platform to express ideas, discuss important community issues, co-design local events and showcase their talents and contributions.

Skill-building workshops, youth markets and community-wide celebrations will be among the events being delivered by local governments and community organisations this year.

These events, alongside opening and closing events, are supported by record funding of $152,500 from the Cook Labor Government.

To officially launch the celebrations, a vibrant community festival is being held on 10 April in the Shire of Capel, featuring young musicians, a youth market space, and an art gallery curated by young artists in the region.

Youth Minister Hannah Beazley, will attend the launch festival alongside this year's Youth Week WA Ambassadors - Maeson Harvey, Alessia Maio, Regina Ndossi and Joshua Patrick - who are supporting the planning and delivery of Youth Week WA.

The Ambassadors also played an important role in selecting this year's theme, 'Strength in Our Stories,' which highlights the power of young people's diverse backgrounds in helping them spark change and overcome challenges.

"I encourage all Western Australians to visit a Youth Week event in your local community and show your support for our State's incredible young people."

As stated by Collie-Preston MLA Jodie Hanns MLA:

"I'm pleased to see Youth Week WA launched in the Shire of Capel, a community that continues to demonstrate outstanding leadership in youth engagement.

"The Shire's youth services team is deeply committed to supporting young people, and this festival demonstrates their support for young people living in regional WA.

"It's a wonderful opportunity to recognise the creativity, resilience and contributions of young people across the State."
