Your chance to recognise Community Champions

Who are the unsung heroes who make a real difference in your community? It's now time to give them the recognition they deserve by nominating them for a local Australia Day award.

Tamworth Regional Council has opened nominations for Australia Day Awards at Tamworth, Manilla, Barraba and Nundle. The Awards recognise individuals and groups who are making a significant positive impact in their community.

Tamworth Region Mayor Russell Webb encourages residents to nominate community members who go above and beyond to help others.

"The Awards are a great way of recognising the efforts of individuals or groups that are making a real difference in our community," he said.

Barraba, Manilla, Nundle and Tamworth will host special Australia Day celebrations coordinated by Council and local Australia Day committees with awards presented at these events to recognise achievements leading up to and throughout 2023.

Barraba is seeking nominations for Citizen of the Year, Frank Darlington Young Citizen of the Year (for Barraba residents aged 23 years and under) and Community Event of the Year.

Manilla will award a Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year (20 years and under), Community Event of the Year and Achiever of the Year.

The people of Nundle and district are invited to nominate a Citizen of the Year (over 25 years old), Junior Citizen of the Year (up to 25 years old), Sports Award, Community Recognition Award and Environmental Citizen of the Year.

Tamworth presents awards for Citizen of the Year and the George Nethery Medal to a person aged over 25 years of age, Young Citizen of the Year and the John Green Scholarship for a person aged 17-25 years and the Mitchell Brady Encouragement Award to a student aged 16 and under.
