Whether it's learning about potential career opportunities and recreation activities, or simply a chance to take in some entertainment and have some fun, this month's Youth Expo is a must-do event for our region's younger residents.

To be held at Mildura's Henderson Park on Friday 23 August, this year's Youth Expo builds on the success of previous expos, boasting more stalls and a broader range of activities than previous events.

Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Min Poole said the Youth Expo was designed to be a fun event created 'by young people for young people' in our region.

"Our Youth Committee members have put in an amazing amount of planning and hard work to create this fantastic event for their peers," Cr Poole said.

"One of their key drivers this year was to help raise awareness about services available for young people in our region, as often young people simply aren't aware of what is out there.

"The Youth Expo is the perfect opportunity for young people, and their parents or carers, to come along, meet local service providers and learn about youth services in our region."

Cr Poole said that another important aspect was to ensure the event was also fun and engaging.

"Youth in our region are at a critical time in their lives when they may start to look at the career path they wish to follow, or they may be seeking help or support if they're in a difficult situation," she said.

"Equally though, young people obviously want to have a good time, and I think our Youth Expo does all of this."

This year's event will feature a large and diverse range of displays and information stalls from local agencies and service providers, showcasing career opportunities, training providers, sport and recreation activities and potential volunteering opportunities available in our region.

There will also be food stalls, fun activities for young people to participate in and entertainment.

The Youth Expo is a free event and will run from 3pm to 5.30pm on Friday 23 August.
