The Department of the House of Representatives and Y Australia are excited to announce the upcoming launch of the National Youth Parliament, a program that will provide 16–17-year-olds with a unique opportunity to explore aspects of the role of a Member of Parliament and to learn about parliamentary processes, including how bills are drafted, debated, and passed into law.
The National Youth Parliament will be officially launched by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Honourable Milton Dick MP, on Monday 25 August 2025, when applications will open to all young people who will be aged 16–17 and living in Australia in August 2026.
Media, parliamentarians and visitors are invited to join the launch from 11.45 am, with official proceedings to commence from 12 noon.
Attendees are invited to join local Canberra artist Estelle Briedis in creating Chamber-inspired screen-printed bookmarks and to get into the Youth Parliament spirit with cordial and a cupcake.
