Youth Week and Seniors Festival collide

They may have been designed as different festivals but this year in Kempsey, Youth Week and the Macleay Seniors Festival came together in beautiful ways.

At the core of both festivals is the desire to help bring together the people of our beloved community.

A special outcome driven by simultaneously hosting both festivals this year was the way that we saw events where young people and seniors connected and experienced things together.

We saw people of all ages gather for acoustic sets in the library, the giant obstacle course fun run and festival hosted at Riverside Park and other events such as ten-pin bowling in South West Rocks.

One specific highlight from the past two weeks was the Intergenerational Storytime hosted at the Crescent Head Public School.

We saw grandparents, parents and children of many ages gather to learn more about each other's history and enjoy reading books, together.

This heart-warming event will certainly be worth repeating during Macleay Youth Week and Seniors Festivals for years to come.

We appreciate everyone's participation in both Youth Week and the Macleay Seniors Festival in 2021 and are looking forward to next year already.

Would you like to see something special in the program for next year's events or are you interested in hosting an event yourself? Excellent. Keep your eyes peeled early next year as we begin working with the community to develop the next set of programs via Your Say Macleay.
