Two teenage boys are due in court today charged after a motel was broken into at Moree on the weekend.
Officers attached to New England Police District have been investigating an aggravated break and enter of a motel on Frome Street about 3am yesterday (Sunday 4 January 2026).
About 1am today (Monday 5 January 2026), police at Moree were alerted to an attempted break-in at a home on Sunnyside Road.
Following inquiries, a 4WD was stopped on Anne Street about 2.15am and two 17-year-old boys were arrested.
During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly located and seized ammunition and clothing items which will undergo further examination.
The teenage boys were taken to Moree Police Station where they have been charged.
One boy was charged with seven offences,
• Aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company intend steal
• Face blackened/disguised with intent – commit indictable offence
• Enter building/land with intent commit indictable offence
• Face blackened/disguised with intent – commit indictable offence
• Possess housebreaking implements
• Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, and
• Breach of bail.
The second boy was charged with three offences,
• Face blackened/disguised with intent – commit indictable offence
• Aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company intend steal, and
• Breach of bail.
Both have been refused bail to appear in a children's court later today.
