Two companies in Brisbane's inner east are upgrading their work practices and creating more jobs for Queenslanders after securing more than $1 million in combined funding from the Palaszczuk Government.
Member for Bulimba Di Farmer said the $46 million Made in Queensland (MiQ) grants program is a proven job-creating initiative that supports the backbone of Queensland's manufacturing sector.
"MiQ funding will boost the production of Morningside's Kilner's Engineering and Murrarie's NOJA Power Switchgear, allowing them to secure larger contracts," Ms Farmer said.
"Kilner's Engineering will invest $780,000 into high-powered fibre laser equipment, while NOJA Power Switchgear, a global-leader in power-pole mounted electrical products, will increase their export capacity off the back of their $251,730 grant.
"This funding from the Palaszczuk Government will create 10 new local jobs over the next five years, which is great news for our community.
"Manufacturing is one of our state's most important sectors, and we're proud to support these companies through their next phase of growth."
Kilner's Engineering CEO Geoffrey Kilner said the MiQ funding would allow the company to invest in state-of-the-art technology at their new Morningside facility.
"We will be introducing the most technologically advanced large-format fibre laser in Queensland, giving us increased capacity to deliver larger metal fabrication projects," Mr Kilner said.
"The new technology will improve our efficiency and increase the range of products we make for sectors including agriculture, food, marine, automotive and mining."
Minister for Manufacturing Cameron Dick said MiQ is helping local manufacturers expand, upskill and employ.
"Since 2017 the Palaszczuk Government has supported around 75 projects across Queensland through MiQ," Mr Dick said.
"The grants, which are matched by the manufacturers, will help create more than 930 new jobs over the next five years and are expected to generate approximately $92 million in private sector investment."
Shortlisted applicants for MiQ Round 3 will be invited to submit detailed applications in November.
