A $1 million Lotterywest grant will enable renowned Gosnells wetland Mary Carroll Park to be transformed with new accessible and welcoming features for all members of the local community.
As part of the funding, a Welcome to Country area will include artworks, signage, a path network, lighting and additional picnic areas with shades.
In addition, the grant will enable the construction of a Changing Places accessible toilet, suitable for people with high support needs.
The Lotterywest funding is on top of the $2 million already provided by the City of Gosnells for the project, which will see the construction of pedestrian bridges and an all-abilities playground.
Announcing the funding at Mary Carroll Park today, Local Government Minister John Carey said that once completed, the park would be a welcoming space that would enable people to connect with their local community.
As stated by Local Government Minister John Carey:
"The McGowan Government is proud to support the City of Gosnells' $2 million commitment to its community in developing this fantastic project with $1 million in Lotterywest funding.
"The Welcome to Country area will be a fantastic addition to what is already a renowned wetland park.
"By showcasing Aboriginal heritage and culture, the City is showing that it listens to, and is in tune with, what its local community needs.
"With the inclusion of accessible features, this project will provide a fantastic local space that will bring the community together."
