10 people charged after Acacia Prison riot

Detectives from the Major Crime Division have charged 10 people over their alleged role in a riot at Acacia Prison in Wooroloo on Sunday, 27 February 2022.

During the incident, a number of fires were lit causing significant damage to various building as well as property damage and graffiti.

The Major Crime Division investigation focussed on criminal behaviour during the riot. All 10 persons have been charged with Rioters Causing Damage (By Fire) – Section 67(2) of the Criminal Code.

The charged persons are all males aged between 18 and 26 years of age. They are due to appear before the Midland Magistrates Court on Thursday, 24 March 2022. Their appearance from Acacia, Hakea and Casuarina Prisons will most likely be via video link.
