$1.18 million redevelopment to Lyndhurst community facility

Lyndhurst residents can now enjoy greater access to playgroups and activities like exercise classes, social groups and cultural programs at Marriott Waters Family and Community Centre thanks to a $1.18 million redevelopment.

City of Casey Mayor Cr Amanda Stapledon was joined by Member for Cranbourne Pauline Richards MP on Wednesday 26 June to officially re-open the centre and celebrate the completion of the project.

In 2016, works were carried out at the centre to meet demand for kindergarten placements, but demand continued to strain capacity. It was clear there was still a need for quality community spaces in the area.

This led to the recent redevelopments which have delivered:

  • an additional 150sqm multi-purpose community room
  • community kitchen
  • large indoor/outdoor storage space
  • family changeroom
  • secure outdoor courtyard.

Cr Stapledon said she was proud for the opportunity to share in this exciting event.

“Our Council describes community facilities as a focal point for community interaction; a place where people can build relationships and a community identity; a place that strengthens the life of a community; and where residents can access local services,” she said.

“Places like these are vital anchors which help foster community connectedness, reducing social isolation, resulting in greater health and wellbeing outcomes for our residents.

“The redevelopment is an example of where the community and their changing needs are at the forefront of our planning for now, and into the future.”

The project continues Council’s strong partnership with the State Government, which contributed $590,000 from the Growing Suburbs Fund, alongside Council’s contribution of $590,000.

“We thank the State Government for their support towards this project and all those who worked tirelessly to make this happen and Cr Rowe and I reiterate our commitment to ensuring that we provide great spaces for our diverse and growing community to meet,” Cr Stapledon said.
