From 28 to 30 September, ESCWA, in cooperation with the Regional Office of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Statistical Center for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-Stat), and the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS), organized a regional workshop on monitoring progress and ways to move forward in the 2020 round of population and housing censuses.
Participants discussed the censuses that have been implemented and the progress made in countries planning their upcoming ones, as well as ways to benefit from regional experiences and good practices in undertaking the 2020 census round.
They also discussed obstacles in undertaking censuses in some countries, including scenarios for their implementation and ways of providing technical support and mobilizing financial resources.
