2023 City Nature Challenge

Get involved in the 2023 City Nature Challenge. This year, we are collaborating with 27 Councils and 9 environmental organisations across metropolitan Melbourne to participate in the City Nature Challenge and we need your help.

What is the City Nature Challenge?

The City Nature Challenge is an annual global event that celebrates local wildlife and flora through citizen science. The event is coordinated by the California Academy of Sciences and the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum and was first run in 2016.

During the 4-day observation period from Friday 28 April to Monday 1 May, you are invited to find, photograph and document the native plants and animals that lives and grows in our neighbourhood on the iNaturalist app.

Follow how Greater Melbourne is tracking against the rest of the world.

Or follow how Knox is contributing to the Greater Melbourne project.

Get involved with our events happening right across the City Nature Challenge weekend.
