A health education leader who has drawn on her personal and intercultural perspective to reimagine belonging and success in health education has been named the Australian University Teacher of the Year in the 2025 Australian Awards for University Teaching.
University of Queensland Associate Professor Roma Forbes has been recognised for her unique approach to health education, one grounded in the strength of people, depth of relationships and a reciprocal commitment to community.
Awards for Teaching Excellence were also given to:

- Dr Rocco Cavaleri (Western Sydney University)
- Professor Jason Lodge (The University of Queensland)

- Dr Lynda Shevellar (The University of Queensland)
Ms Ellie White from The University of Melbourne received the 2025 Neville Bonner Award for Indigenous Education in recognition of her leadership in transformative health education that celebrates Indigenous ways of knowing, shaping emerging health professionals to be strong advocates for health equity.
Emeritus Professor Geoffrey Crisp of the University of Adelaide was awarded the Career Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to teaching and learning.
Universities Australia Chief Executive Officer Luke Sheehy congratulated this year's recipients and highlighted the vital role university educators play in shaping the nation's future.
"These awards recognise the dedicated educators who shape students' futures every day and, by extension, the future of our nation," Mr Sheehy said.
"Their work transforms lives by opening pathways to careers and further study, enabling them to pursue their passions and make a meaningful contribution through their chosen career.
"To those recognised in this year's awards, thank you for all that you do to support students."
Since 1997, the awards have celebrated outstanding educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching, leadership and enhancing the student experience across Australian universities.
