The Broken Hill City Art Gallery is proud to present the 2025 Pro Hart Outback Art Prize, opening with a free public event on Friday, 15 August at 6:00 pm.
One of Australia's leading regional art awards, PHOAP showcases works by 50 finalists from across the country, working across a broad range of media including painting, sculpture, textiles, photography, and printmaking. These works reflect the complexity, beauty, and ever-evolving narratives of life in regional and remote Australia.
"The range of work in this year's exhibition is a real celebration of outback life. It's inspiring to see such talent and vision coming from all corners of the country."
- Kathy Graham, Gallery and Museum Manager
Established in honour of the late Pro Hart, the Prize recognises his legacy as a champion of art in the outback and his enduring connection to Broken Hill's creative culture. The exhibition is made possible thanks to the generous support of Raylee J. Hart and the Hart family.
This year's Pro Hart Outback Art Prize will be judged by Brett Adlington, Chief Executive Officer of Museums & Galleries of NSW, whose extensive experience in the public gallery sector brings valuable insight and critical rigour to the judging process.
Winners of the $20,000 First Prize (acquisitive) and $2,000 Second Prize will be announced on the night, with public voting for the $1,000 People's Choice Award launching at the event.
In addition to the opening of PHOAP 2025, the evening will also mark the launch of three new exhibitions at the Gallery and will feature live music, bar facilities, and light refreshments.
The public is also invited to a free artist talk on Saturday 16 August at 10:30 am, where a selection of exhibiting artists from the Pro Hart Outback Art Prize will share insights into their work in a relaxed and engaging conversation within the gallery.
The exhibition runs from 15 August to 2 November 2025 at Broken Hill City Art Gallery, 404–408 Argent Street, Broken Hill.
