2025 Tweed Sustainability Awards: People's Choice

Tweed Shire Council

Thirty-three local groups and individuals have been nominated for the Tweed Sustainability Awards in 2025 and Tweed Shire Council is now asking residents to vote for their favourite to win the People's Choice award.

Launched in 2019, this is the fourth time the biennial Tweed Sustainability Awards have been run. The aim of the awards is to showcase businesses, groups and individuals who are doing great things to make a difference to Tweed's environment.

There are 9 categories which will be judged by an independent panel and winners will be announced at an event on Wednesday 15 October. The special People's Choice award will also be announced at the same event. Tweed locals are encouraged to learn about the nominees (via the website) and vote before the cut off at midnight on Sunday 14 September.

Voters have a wide range of sustainable initiatives to choose from in 2025, including:

  • neighbours collaborating to create a sustainable public walkway
  • creating backyard habitats for wildlife with native plants and bird shelters
  • repurposing byproduct waste into new eco-friendly products
  • businesses installing solar panels to reduce energy consumption
  • composting to enrich school gardens, reduce landfill waste and grow fresh vegetables
  • promoting eco-tourism across the Tweed
  • embedding sustainable agricultural practices into everyday farming operations
  • leading by example to inspire and educate young people about the environment
  • weed control, planting and endangered species protection in conservation sites.

Mayor of Tweed Shire, Chris Cherry, said this year's nominations highlight the community's dedication to environmental innovation, leadership and collaboration.

"I'm truly impressed by the creativity and impact demonstrated by this year's nominees," Cr Cherry said.

"The quality of nominees reflects diverse sustainability efforts in education, conservation, business innovation and community projects.

"I particularly enjoy how the nominees have harnessed their passion and dedication to deliver meaningful projects that have a real and lasting impact on the environment," she said.

Voting for the People's Choice winner is now open - only one vote is allowed per person. Voting closes at midnight on Sunday 14 September 2025. The award winners will be announced at a showcase event on Wednesday 15 October 205.
