Councillor Liam Mooney said the 2026 Theatre Season was designed to appeal to Townsville locals and visitors from all walks of life, including families and groups of friends.
"There's no business like show business, which is why we're so excited to be sharing the 2026 Theatre Season with you," Cr Mooney said.
"The Civic Theatre has a stellar line up of shows this year, including music, comedy, dance, drama and cabaret for locals and visitors to enjoy.
"Some of the highlights in the next few weeks include TheatreiNQ's highly anticipated Shakespeare in Love kicking off later this week – and this is just the tip of the iceberg. There's a huge range of shows you can head along to and enjoy high-quality live performance right here in Townsville."
Cr Mooney said there was no better venue in Townsville for experiencing the thrill of live theatre.
"As a performer myself I know how great it is to get on stage at the Civic Theatre and look out at the audience in the theatre's iconic red chairs," he said.
"You don't have to be able to quote The Bard to enjoy live theatre, there really is something for everyone in this year's theatre season."
Shakespeare in Love director and TheatreiNQ artistic director Terri Brabon OAM said the stage adaptation of the Academy Award-winning movie would delight audiences when it opened this Thursday.
"We're thrilled to be bringing such a unique and enchanting performance to Townsville Civic Theatre this week. Shakespeare in Love is a show filled with big laughs, true romance and beautiful live music – there's something for everyone to enjoy in this jam-packed show," Ms Brabon said.
"Townsville audiences are in for a treat with the return of Townsville-raised performers Lachlan Stevenson, Brittany Santariga and James Thomasson for this special limited season. These performers rose through the ranks of TheatreiNQ and are now professional actors on stage and television.
