26 Additional Police Commence Training

Jacquie Petrusma,Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management

The Tasmania Police Academy is welcoming 26 new police recruits this week who are commencing their studies and training, and will graduate as Police Officers in June next year.

This course is in addition to the 22 recruits who commenced training on 9 August 2021, and will graduate on 11 March 2022.

I would like to wish our new recruits all the best as they commence their course, which marks the start of what will be an extremely rewarding career with Tasmania Police.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is delivering 308 additional police officers as part of our strong plan to keep Tasmanians safe.

This year alone we have had 70 new police officers graduate from the Tasmania Police Academy, providing more police officers to the frontline to protect our communities.

In addition, on 12 October this year Tasmania Police also announced a new Satellite Recruit Training Course that will be based in Launceston.

This innovative approach means that for the first time ever, Tasmania Police recruits from the north and north-west of Tasmania can complete their 31-week training in the north of the state, without moving to Hobart to train at the Rokeby Police Academy.

Once they complete their training, the northern-based recruits will be stationed in their home districts, so they won't need to move across the state for the job.

The first satellite recruitment course will commence in Launceston in April next year, and Tasmania Police is already receiving strong interest from potential recruits.
